I love the kiwi tip (using an egg cutter)...I'll have to remember that!

One thing I like to do when baking breads/muffins is to add grated apple. All you do is peel the apple and then use a cheese grater to grate into shreds. It is so quick and works really well in baked goods!

I live in New Jersey, I have a Fig tree which did not bears any fruit for tree year now.
Would you please advise me what to do so the Fig tree will produce fruit. My back yard soil is a clay type. What fertilizer should I use and any other recommendation.

Fig trees produce on new growth like roses so you need nitrogen fertilizer to stimulate the new growth. Also, I've use a lot of super phosphate as this is the nutrient for flowering. I know that figs don't flower but it helped mine. Additionally a volunteer fig tree I had never produced, I had to buy a commercial variety. I finally, I cut back my tree a lot in the winter (not quite as much as a rose) and then I get a lot of new growth in the spring/summer.

I think the time to prune a fig tree is now, Feb March. I put my clippings in a bucket with a bit of water, they root, and I let my neighbours help themselves. Figs everywhere.
