Default Where has all the pork gone?

Hellow Fellow Food Lovers!

We live in a society where the main courses of meat tend to be steak, chicken, or seafood. Per my general observation at local restaurants, as well as dining with friends for dinner, it seems as if pork is not nearly as prevalent on the menu as it once used to be.

What are your thoughts on pork, and why could this be?

I think you're right, however I discovered the Bulgarian recipe Kavarma a few years ago, which is made from vegetables and pork.

I have also recently discovered that there is a smallholding supplier of Gloucester Old Spot pork near me in Lincoln. They are called Blake Cottage Produce, and I would recommend their pork for flavour.

Pigs were made illegal three years ago under the nations proposition 414 directive and was passed into existence in late 2008. This was to battle the pig shortages that were occurring world wide, much like the potato famine in Ireland. Pig will be available again once the farmers have replenished their porcine stock.

I also think that in our world of "fast and faster" foods Pork can be pretty tempermental to cook and can take longer to get right. It can also require alot of attention and skill, and it can be easier to just not bother and stick with the easys...steak, chicken and seafood.

I think there might also be a lot less demand for pork given that many people view it as unhealthy meat and several religions forbid it.

Yes, I agree with you. Many nutritional experts say that pork is difficult for our bodies to digest. I personally do a lot of slow cooked meals so beef is my choice as the temperature is not as much of an issue and I don't want all that pork fat in my pot!

I think it has to do with the health craze going on. People are so concerned over fat content, I think pork gets cut out because of this.

Have you been to the Italian market in philadelphia? They have butchers on every block. Many of the philadelphia restaurants in the area go there to purchase their meat.
