Default Foods for better health

My physician advised me to start taking herbal products such as spirulina, and hippophaes. I read that these food supplements have therapeutic effects. I also found this documentation about the active ingredients of hippophaes: hippophaes.

Overall due to its compounds, H. rhamnoides manifests various beneficial actions:
antioxidant,
anti-inflammatory,
antimicrobial,
antitumoral,
hepato-protective,
immuno-modulatory.

Does anybody else take hippophaes or something similar?

Last friday I have some pasta with hippophaes in it (made by the manufacturer) and was really nice. A couple of friends who tried it liked it as well.

Hi health,
I've never tried hippophaes, but I do eat a good amount of hard food (ground food). Hard food is yams, green bananas, plantain and dasheene all boiled together in one pot. The dish is Caribbean in it's origin, and it is really nourishing for the body and good for strength.

It's believed that yams was one of the most included foods in the Jamaican racing teams diet, and we all know how their performance at the Olympic turned out

No I don't. I have no idea what it is but I do believe you can get a lot of antioxidant from fresh fruits and vegetables. There are a lot of fresh "Super Foods" out there.

Thumbs up Re: Foods for better health

Hippophaes has a lot of nutritional value - antioxidants and its vitamin C content is 15 times that of an orange. It is one of the high potassium foods since it has over 1000 mg of potassium in 100 mg of dried berries. The DASH study is the biggest to date showing a high potassium diet will lower blood pressure, reduce bone loss and reduce likelihood of kidney stones.

There are plenty of healthy foods to eat. The benefits of a healthy diet are too many to list. The nutrition pyramid is a great way to work out what you should eat the most of, and what to keep at a minimum.

You can get loads of antioxidants from blueberries, blackberries etc.

I never heard of Hippophaes before. I really wish that eating healthy was easier. We live in such a fast paced society these days that we are more proned to eat whatever we can when we can. It takes so much dedication to stick to eating healthy!

Hi Sipurit,

I like a lot a sauce that I read about someplace else which is the following:

In a small container you can mix 1/2 small cup of olive oil, 2 spoons of honey, 1 spoon of hippophae powder, and 1 small spoon of salt, if the sauce comes out too tight you may add a little water to dilute it.

I use the sauce for my lettuce - chicken salad I make.

If you decide to make it let me know of what you think please.

So hippophaes is "sea buckthorn"? I suppose I've heard of that... sea vegetables are definitely some of the most nutritious foods out there, as we have depleted our soil of nutrients through overfarming but haven't damaged ocean ecosystems nearly as much. And where do you think the omega-3s in fish come from? Algae.
